The mission of FiXiT Foundation is to end overpopulation of companion animals by developing a system to support and promote incentive-based spay/neuter programs and produce solutions to bring spay/neuter to everyone.
FiXiT Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit based in Norfolk, VA, was formed in response to the death of millions of cats and dogs every year in U.S. shelters. Current low cost spay/neuter efforts have placed us on a plateau with minimal change in the rate of euthanasia over the past 10 years. We knew that a new strategy was needed to stop this needless loss of life, one that was informed by strategic research and one that responds to the different perspectives of pet owners across the country.
Stephanie Downs and Dr. Kellie Heckman formed FiXiT Foundation in 2009. Ms. Downs brings her expertise in marketing, as the founder of Markomm, an internet marketing company specializing in pay per click advertising. Dr. Heckman brings her background in research science, receiving her PhD for her studies of the evolution of the world’s smallest primates, mouse lemurs.
FiXiT Foundation is now composed almost exclusively of a volunteer team of experienced professionals with varying specialties, most with experience in the animal welfare community.
FiXiT Foundation respects the lives of all animals. We have a Vegetarian/Vegan Policy for FiXiT sponsored events.
